Burning Permits

The Harrisville Fire Department issues burning permits under the auspices of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, the Town of Burrillville and the Harrisville Fire District. Rules and procedures must be properly followed in order obtain a permit.

RULES FOR GETTING A BURNING PERMIT

  • A burning permit must be obtained in order to burn brush. This is an ordinance of theTown of Burrillville.
  • Only Harrisville Fire District residents can receive permits from the Harrisville Fire Department.
  • The fire danger, as dictated by the RI State Forestry service, must be below medium and winds must be minimal. There is a sign on the front lawn of the fire station indicating the fire danger.
  • Only brush may be burned. Building materials and trash cannot be burned.
  • You must obtain a permit on the day you are going to burn. Permits will not be issued days prior.

PROCEDURE TO GET A BURING PERMIT

  • During the week, permits may be obtained at the Harrisville Fire station, 7:30-3:30.
  • On the weekend the fire station is not staffed full-time, but permits will still be issued. First, try calling the fire station. If unsuccessful, call the Burrillville Police station at 568-6255. The dispatcher will direct you to a fire officer.
